Not looking good eh?
They should never enter a war without the UN's approval - if anything goes wrong the consequences will be grave. Russia, France and Germany against the war.......... If this causes Cold War feelings to blow up again, then things are not looking good. What your thoughts on all this? Because they could go it alone in the next week or so. Plus, anyone think the world stage is being set for the Revelation in the Bible - with the rise of 1 world leader (peacemaker)? |

Hm. Well, I've read 1441 and the introduction contains a long list of previous UN resolutions (10, I think, not including 1441) that Saddam has either ignored or the UN itself has allowed to lapse.
I despise George Bush more than you can imagine but I'm a lot more worried about a world with an ineffective UN than a world where everyone hates our president. Quote:

If we (the US and Britain) attack unilaterally, doesn't this make us rogue nations? Isn't it within the rights of the UN to sanction us economically?
I wouldn't be too surprised if some nations began sanctions on their own. If we invade a sovereign nation that hasn't attacked us, I think many countries that have traditionally been our allies might turn against us. I sure hope not, but I think its a possible scenario. -Kelly |

In Re 1441:
ISRAEL. What is it that they've been violating, and for how long? 221 or something, for how many decades? The US is NOT trying to enforce international law in the least. It's a completely vaccuous argument, and I would even go so far as to call it outright lie. The UN is completely inneffective, because of one major feature: the veto power of five permanent members of the security council. It's utter bullocks that a China can literally do whatever the hell it wants (and the US, France, GB, Russia) and will literally be immune to legal repercussions. Hell, China still illegally occupies Tibet. What has the UN done for that? The UN was inneffective at its core from day one due to that feature alone. |

I have never seen a US President so anxious to start a war. In the past it seemed people would do everything possible to avoid a war. It was a last resort, not any more. And they want to go in and kill people because they THINK they MIGHT have weapons of mass destruction. This to is unprecedented, to attack a country that hasnt done anything to anyone in 10 years. And the hurry to do so, why the rush. It is extremely embarrassing to be an American right now.

GASP! Oh my God, you mean we may be acting hypocritically?? Unbelievable!! ![]() LOL, don't even get me started about Israel. They are my definition of a rogue nation. But this conversation isn't about Israel, Botswana, or anyplace else. Let's stick to the issue at hand. You guys have good points, and I don't necessarily disagree. The real culprit is George Bush's howling incompetence. I believe there may be a good moral case for what he's doing (as I said, please read the list of ignored UN resolutions in the intro of 1441) but it would have involved finesse, good will, and diplomacy. Instead he spent his first years in office alienating the world, and now he can't figure out why people won't go along with him. What a dolt. |
