An omnipotent, omniscient being would be responsible for everything that happens, either by commission or by omission.
Imagine that as you are driving, you hit some wayward child. And when you are hauled into court, you offer the defense that you had done nothing -- you didn't change your car's speed or direction of travel -- and that you are therefore 100% innocent. If hitting that kid is a crime of omission, then an omnipotent, omniscient being becomes responsible for everything that happens, also by omission. And, Badfish, what is that great, unified, alleged entity "man"? |

Going to church was a precarious thing when the flu or other diseases were going around. Sit For two and a half hours with feverish, coughing people who fill the air with viral particles simply because they think God will heal them if they attend, or they feel that it is their duty to suffer and attend. The threat of SARS is leaving a bitter taste in my mouth toward church.

Is a relationship with God ineffective against disease. No. That relationship can bring comfort through the pain, strength where there is weakness, hope where there is despair.
We must always remember that death will never be ultimately defeated on this earth. We can do our best to do research to defeat the viruses that attack us - and we should do that research. However, we must keep in mind that death will not be ultimately defeated until we are in eternity with our maker. Down here, we see death as much more of a tragedy than God does. To God it is just a stepping stone to eternal life. To us, because of finite limits, often it is seen as the end, when it is really only a transition to a whole new beginning. Kevin |
