This is the problem with being the world's police force, everyone likes to have the big guy on their side when things are tough, but they'd like to do some things that they know we won't approve of. So, they love us when we help them, and hate us when we defend someone they don't agree with. I don't think it should be our job to say, OK Iraqis, this is the kind of government you're going to have now. We should take sort of a moderator/mediator role, but let them make up their own minds, and then respect their decision (even if we don't agree with it). I just think being overly involved in the Middle East is just more trouble than it's worth. |
