Default Six Six Six!

I finally made it! Six hundred and sixty six posts! I wonder when I'll or if I'll ever reach 1000.

To celebrate this event, and to keep from completely post slutting, I'll initiate several discussions. You may choose one or all to answer. These have been things that have been kicking around my brain lately, as those in chat can attest. I'm not sure about my opinion on them.

1) Is there such a thing as too much attention from the opposite sex? I find responses to this question fall into one of two categories. One is either sympathetic and provides constructive critticism, such as "Don't be a fraid to be assertive and turn that guy down!" The other general response is "Quit yer bitchin'!" To which party do you belong, and why, and how do you deal with it, if you happen to have that problem?

2) Non-violence, and how far do you think it should go? Frankly, I'm disturbed by this attitude, that sometimes translates to "Oh, I couldn't possible hurt my attacker, he's another human being!" Why does it exsist at all? What happened to self-defence? When is it neccessary to act in self defence?

3) Men and Women: Can they really be friends, or are we all just kidding ourselves? No no no.... gay men and straight women do not count. Neither do lesbian women and straight men. You get the picture.

4) And for kicks: Who do you like better: Superman or Batman? Why?

My personal vote is tied between Bruce Wayne and Ian Nottingham.

-Liana, who really should be studying.

I feel that Batman has a more interesting cast of characters around him for one. Tim Drake (Robin), Dick Grayson (Nightwing), and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) all are strong enough to have their own books and when they come into Batman's books, they add quite a bit.

I will say that I think Superman has a great nemesis in Lex Luthor, but I can't Bizarro and a lot of his other things just fall flat.

Another enjoyable aspect of Batman's character is the way they do the storylines. They're great.....No Man's Land, Murderer?, Fugitive and the current Hush storyline are all very deep and lend themselves to great storytelling. Superman just doesn't have the same vision, although making Luthor president is just so brilliant, I need to buy that TPB when it comes out.

When it comes to movies though, Superman is superior, no doubt. I even think that II is better than I ("Oh my GOD!" "Zod.") because of the evil trio. And Hackman as Luthor is great too. The only good heel in the Batman movies was the Joker, Carrey had potential as the Riddler but the script sucked.

Yes, I believe they really can be friends.

Congrats on the sixs, Liana!

Yes there is. I haven't been on the recieving end since I ceased to look presentable by quitting bad habits like combing my hair, wearing clean clothes, etc (I now think I get just the right amount, lucky me).

I'm boring in this regard. Physical self defense and defense of others is justified when the person needing protection can reasonably be assumed to be at risk of dying or recieving significant physical injuries, or a complete violation of their rights as a human being (sexual assault). The level of force ought to be enough to definitely repel an attack but not anything the person knows is in excess of that.

Yes they can. Of course, some individuals of both sexes can't be, but I know I have good friends of the opposite sex where our urges for other things have basically faded with the years.

Batman is the more interesting character. Dark, brooding, troubled past, something of an underdog (no super powers)... I'd rather be Superman though if I could be one of them.

Thumbs up

First off, congrats on the triple-6! Although as I write this you're at 669!

Now, on to your other questions:

1. I've never had the "problem" of too much attention from women. I wish I had a little more of that "problem" actually, even though my wife might not like it.

2. I wouldn't even wait to feel like my life is threatened for self-defense. If you start hitting, I'm gonna hit back (unless there's a cop and a lawyer nearby - then I'll take the beating and sue!).

3. The fact that I wouldn't turn down sex from female friends in no way lessens my friendship with them. They don't have to know that under the right circumstances that I'd do 'em, or wouldn't miss an opportunity to see them naked. In When Harry Met Sally, Harry says that "the sex thing always gets in the way." I disagree. I can still be friendly and be attracted to someone, IMHO.

4. Hmmm... Superman has X-ray vision, but Batman's got all the neat gadgets. Plus, Batman/Bruce Wayne is super-rich! He's like Bill Gates, only better looking.

"It's the car, right? Chicks dig the car." -Val Kilmer as Batman

!. I quit combing my hair and wearing nice clothes and i only shower occasionally now. but the only difference is that i'm not stared at anymore. It used be that I couldn't look at any of the opposite sex if I didn't want them, because if I were caught looking, they would stare at me, giggle and all this girly bullshit that I despise, plus most girls are stupid, so i tried cutting down, it's not so bad now eh sakpo?

2. I like hurting people. 'nuff said.

3. They can, but a lot of the time they are just kidding themselves. I think things should be like in Brave New World where people screw, no one cares, you have friends you screw them, and everyone's happy.

4. I like Batman better, red underwear just doesn't appeal to me.
