Oh my "god"! I'm glad I did.
You, I'm working on getting a mortgage for the house I'm going to buy. I'm getting one of those 103% loans that means I barely pay a cent to start, great for those young kids who don't believe in saving money in a 0.5% savings account, but rather investing about 30% of their pay. So, the bank saw I had balances on two credit cards. One was my 0% for 8 more months Best Buy purchase. And the other was a balance I was going to swallow after the whole mortgage thing was done. Bank didn't like it. They wanted me to clear them both. Hey, they got the money, they make the choices. So I steal from Paul to pay Mary by taking money out of my Savings account and then moving it to the other bank where my Checking account is. I deposit the money with the teller, take the receipt and am off on my way. This was yesterday, Thursday. I go online, to get evidence that I paid off the balances to send to my mortgage broker. I see that both directdeposits worked and I was paid off. I saw that my paycheck had just come in. However, my $1000 was no where to be found. Seeing that I deposited it at 12:30 yesterday and that debits were shown as being taken out today, something was wrong. But I had the receipt and now my bank is "working" on trying to find my money. Luckily, I did have enough without the deposit to cover it. But if I didn't, this would have sucked BIG TIME. Seeing that this would hardly have looked good to the mortgage company. First Merit said they would pay any charges that would of accrued. I'm thinking to myself, you have no idea what bad timing that would have been. So the lesson is, KEEP THE RECEIPT!!! |

Good lesson.
I usually "err on the side of caution" and end up with papers and receipts etc. overflowing everywhere in my "office" room (then do massive purging when it gets ridiculous) but my motto for big stuff is when in doubt, SAVE IT. |

This is so true. My sister-in-law was in surgery last year and while waiting for it to completed, I called the bank just for the heck-of-it to see if my tax deposit posted electronically that day. No, but I was three grand in the hole, with twenty checks bouncing. My husband had just made a huge materials deposit money deposit the day before. It was credited to another account! We had to take the receipt to prove we had made it. If we hadn't kept it, we would have been out three grand+almost five hundred in overdraft charges.
