Good or Bad?
I like them. I find them informative and amusing especially on tv series box sets like the Simpsons or Futurama. But, on the other hand, i know that some titles are really too bad for the commentary to be anything other than ironically funny. Anyone heard a really bad commentary? |

The Godfather, special edition. Francis Ford Coppola needs to just shut. The fuck. Up. Never have I heard such substanceless, self-important meandering in my life, and I went to Catholic school for 12 years. I swear to gog he wasn't watching the movie at all. He certainly didn't deign to talk about it.
I paid a shitload of money for that motherfucker. If I had wanted the black beret NYU Pilgrim's Progress dense allegory edition, I could have bugged some dank pit in the East Village for free. |

The only commentary tracks I've ever sat down and listened to was on the LotR:SE DVD. And they were excellent, especially the track of the actors.
I can see how on other movies it'd be silly or superfluous, though. No one needs a commentary track on Big Daddy. |

I virtually always listen to audio commentary, though I didn't listen to all of the commentaries on [i]The Rules of Attraction[i]: there were just too many and I didn't have time (good movie though).

Really enjoyed the Roger Ebert commentary on Dark City . Some movies I see no need for a commentary track though..............case in point is Dude, Where's my car? ...........all they did is laugh through the movie, but I guess there was little else to do.

My absolute favorite thing about getting most movies on DVD is any comentary at all. I'm fascinated my the process of movie making. I think it's amazing some movies ever get made at all.

depends on the movie and the person commentating (is that a word?) it.
I've heard commentaries that were interesting, humorous, informative, etc, and I've heard commentaries where the director/producer/whoever just rambles on and on and on and on and on about stuff that has this much to do with anything. |

I just don't have the patience to watch a movie OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again to get all the peoples' commentary on it. The only time I actually made the effort was with Dog Soldiers, in the hopes they'd explain some things I was confused about (and they did!). But that wasn't so bad; it was just one commentary, not, like, 12.

I don't really care much for audio commentary in DVDs. Nor for most other extras. I watch DVDs because their audio and video quality are better than VCDs.
