.. for all to laugh at and ridicule. I got this one two days ago:

Quote:
To drink or not to drink?

Pepsi has a new patriotic can coming out with pictures of the Empire State Bldg. and the Pledge of Allegiance on them. But Pepsi forgot two little words on the pledge, "Under God." Pepsi said they did not want to offend anyone. If this is true then we do not want to offend anyone at the Pepsi corporate office. If we do not buy any Pepsi products then they will not receive any of our monies. Our money, after all, does have the words "Under God" on it. If you agree with this policy, please pass this word to everyone you know. Pepsi doesn't have the right to rewrite the Pledge Of Allegiance!! If you do not agree, just erase this message.
I believe it wasn't Pepsi that was rewriting the Pledge in the first place.

Obviously they're not looking too closely at their money if they don't even know which phrase containing the word "God" is on it.

Anyone know when the national motto actually got changed from "E pluribus unum" to "In God we trust"?

Kudos to the Pepsi company.

Jeez, I seem to be rewriting the Pledge every day I say it in school... no one's commented so far.

(sigh)

1. The soft drink in question was Dr. Pepper. There were only three words on the can, not the entire Pledge. Story here.

2. IGWT was adopted as a national motto in 1956. I thought it was affirmed alongside E Pluribus Unum - co-national mottos, but this site says otherwise.

Philosoft, I'd be interested in either more info or a link if you have one referencing co-national mottos. I hadn't heard that before.

Thanks for the links. Now I know I'm not going to hell for drinking my beloved Pepsi. My brother, on the other hand, loves Dr. Pepper...

Hmm. It's possible I haven't either. The statute reads thusly: "The national motto of the United States is declared to be 'In God We Trust'". It's possible what I'm remembering is someone's argument that the above statute did not concurrently remove 'E Pluribus Unum' from its national motto status, thus they are both official mottos. Beats me.
