There's a bit of cart-before-the-horse here. Eating meat doesn't cause big brains, it gives the high-protein and energy diet that let's you grow 'em, if having one is advantageous. And there's the potential for positive feedback: hunting for meat requires more brain power than does hunting a cabbage.
