Thumbs up Monk?

I haven't seen any discussion on this show so far... anyone else here like the show Monk?

I just started watching when the second season started, so I haven't seen any of the first season episodes. I just love this show, it's pretty funny - and I can relate to most of the stuff he does, lol

Anyone else here watch it?

I want to and I really like Tony, but I haven't started yet. My love hate relationship with TV just won't allow it right now.

I love the show, but can never catch it when it's on. I'm out of the house usually.

I did see the entire first season in one stretch, when USA did that marathon a few months back.

I've only seen one episode, but it was good, and I like the actor who plays Monk. He's funny, and being somewhat more mildly OCD myself I can relate to him.

(Monk pours part of the regular coffee into the decaf container until they're even)

Guy: What are you doing?

Monk: They're even.

Guy: But they're mixed.

Monk: But they're even.

Guy: But they're mixed.

Monk: But they're even.

Yeah, I can relate.

Tony Schalub (sp?) is a great actor. Anyone remember him from "Wings"? He was the only thing that made that show bearable to watch.
I really enjoy Monk. The whole crime mystery setup of the episodes follow a more Hercule Poroit approach in regards to revealing the crime to the reader than any other crime mystery show on right now. (Not many of them).
What I mean is, is that they give you the suspects, and mostly it's a hit and miss guessing game of whudunit rather than the viewer putting all the pieces together by themselves. Because of Monk's meticulous and obsessive-compulsive nature, the solutions almost always include some really exotic and far flung theories.
All which make it an incredibly fun show to watch.

I love Monk. And I haven't been disappointed by anything Tony Tony Shalhoub (looked up the spelling on IMDB) has done. (Not even Thir13en Ghosts).

has anyone heard anything if they're going to be re-running any first season episodes anytime soon?

Anyways, I one of my favorite 'Monkisms' is the one from the first episode where they're playing chess - and the coffee evening part like Elenah said.

Anyways, it was something like this:

Monk: I wouldn't move there.
Sharona: Why not?
Monk: If you do, my bishop will capture your queen.
(Sharona licks her queen and places it on the square that Monk advised her not to, since he won't touch it now because of the germs.)
Monk: Okay, fine. You forfeit.
Sharona: What? Why?
Monk: You can't lick the queen!
Sharona: Why not? It's my queen!
Monk: You can't lick ANY queen! It's an unwritten rule!
Sharona: (disbelieving) There's an unwritten 'licking the queen' rule?!?!
Monk: Yes! You... You're not even allowed to touch the pieces!
Sharona: OH MY GOD, ADRIAN! You have been touching pieces left and right! You've sexually harrassed every piece on this damn board!
Monk: That was different. I was centering the pieces.

I like Monk. It's a great show. Sometimes I have to leave the room for a few minutes during it, though, because some of his OCD behavior is too tense for me. (Like when you just know it's going to go on for a long time, and be painfully embarassing for him- I just can't bear it, I feel for the guy.)

I just want to say that I really like the character Sharona. I think she's very original. It's not often that an earthy, working-class girl with a past is portrayed without a horrid accent or bimbo traits (stupid and over-sexed) or being the maternal wise woman.

She just is who she is with no apologies, and that's really cool. To me, she's as interesting to watch as Monk.
