Are you sure they called it a desert? I've seen it translated as "wilderness".

As for only temple slaves/servants being literate, that would only hold water if scholars thought the exodus story was written down right after it happened. But no serious Biblical scholar thinks that. It's almost universally accepted that it was written generations later.

That's contrary to what the show said. The archeologist concluded that because all the details were "right" it must have been written down right away. And if it was written down right away the tale of moses must be "right".

Which is not to say this changes anything for me, because it's no surprise that this show disagrees with biblical scholars, LOL. But now _I_ know better and that helps to satisfy my curiosity of being able to evaluate the show. Thank you.

Spurly, if you were talking about the pentateuch that Jesus mentions, that has no bearing on whether it was written right away or much later. There is a lot of "much later" between the exodus and Jesus, is there not?
