When did saying you were ashamed of the president and you hailing from the same state become nonsupport of the republic?

They only support them because they make a good proxy force in fighting Israel, and they've been willing to use their influence to reign in Hezbollah since the 80's. It's similar to our supporting the Muhajadeen in Afghanistan. We can deal with them diplomatically.

Here's my suspicion...

We will NOT go to war with syria, at least not NOW. What we will do is make a BIG DEAL about human rights abuses, saddam crony hiding, and WMD having. When Syria doesn't immediately become a model world citizen, we'll impose economic sanctions. When Syria CONTINUES to be mean-n-nasty, we'll eventually decide that 'well, we tried, but obviously diplomacy has failed, time for a Syrian regime change'.

The timing of that depends a lot, I think, on how post-war Iraq goes. If either (a) it goes very well and people feel good about it, or (b) it goes so badly that there's a real and imminent danger of W getting voted out, it'll be about this time next year when we start rumbling about regime change. The war should be started and going strong during prime presidential running time.

Otherwise, W will wait until after the election.

I had already suspected this, but one of the clinchers was that line in the story, prezzy bush has cut off plans for going to war with syria. That is pure, unaduterated propoganda BS. We already HAVE plans to invade Syria. We have plans to invade Greenland, for that matter. There are people in the Pentagon who make entire careers out of planning for ANY possible military eventuality. Somewhere in the Pentagon archives is a plan on how to react to earth getting knocked down to make way for a hyperspace bypass, I guarantee it.

And those people are right now revising ALL plans (including the one about how to invade Syria) to take into account current global conditions. If they weren't, they'd be derilect in their duties.

So yah. No war now, but... Eventually...
