Will they say anything unpredictable in any case? For every team that's in postseason, the story's already been written for every possible scenario because everything that's ever been possible in sports has already happened.

For example, say the 9'ers win with a last second field goal in Tampa; "you know Jim, Jeff Garcia and the 49'ers really showed last week that they have the heart of a champion and they just confirmed that today". Or if they lose; "you know Jim, San Francisco left it all out on the field last week, but they hung in there tough against Warren Sapp and this Bucaneers defense until the end".

Blah, blah, blah. Basic literacy must be the only requirement for being a sportscaster. Predicting what they're going to say ain't all that tough for any of us who follow any sport closely.

Well, let's hope not. I think that Bill Cowher has his work cut out for him this week just to get their engines running again. It was a very emotional victory and a short week ahead of them.

If the Titans can prevent the big play they should win easily.

Agreed. I can't follow football that closely because it simply isn't available to the extent I want here. But it doesn't take to many games to figure out the most obvious stuff. Some of it is pretty generic and could apply to any sport.

"Great fight by the greek fencer today but I can't help but feel that he had his day yesterday when he came back from 7 points behind against hungarian superstar Balaz Papp"

Most of the time I get kind of disappointed with the experts that the play-by-play guy has at the side. They are retired players or coaches but most of the time cannot come up with anything interesting either. Experts should be able to tell you stuff that you couldn't figure out yourself.

What's the point with having a famous soccer star say stuff like

"they really have to score a goal know" (down 5-0 or something)

"They need to tighten up the defence" (down 5-0 again)

The Jets finish the season with big wins against two soft teams and they're destined for greatness. The Raiders finish 7-1 and knock three teams with playoff hopes out of the race while in the process averaging 26 points a game and only giving up 7 but the Jets are better.
The Jets needed help to get into the playoffs, while the Raiders won their division and have the best record in the AFC, but the Jets are unstoppable.
The Raiders stats are better in every offensive and defensive category and they played and beat more teams with .500 or better records than any other team in the NFL, but the Jets are Superbowl bound?
The Raiders have played AND BEATEN EVERY TEAM THAT IS STILL LEFT IN THE AFC PLAYOFFS, while the Jets were 4-5 against all teams with winning records.

Yeah, the Jets should win easily.

If it weren't for the New York sports media machine, everyone would basically be looking ahead to the Raiders vs. Titans AFC Championship game in Oakland.

How do you figure?

The Jets have been very impressive in their last three games, and have won eight of their last ten. Not too shabby.

Also, Pennington appears to be red hot against a Raiders secondary that has been injured (but should be near full strength for this game).

By the way, you may not have noticed, but people are looking forward to a Raiders-Titans matchup -- both teams are at home and favored by 5.

What do you want? Chris Berman on set in silver and black? ABC with promotional spots that say "Don't bother tuning in this week, but next week we should have a barn burner for you!"

Surely you expect the fan boys and fan girls here to say silly things in support of their favorite teams, don't you? Just like you?

But where is this New-York-media-machine stuff coming from?

So who plays in the Superbowl? I probably have to go with Tampa -vs- Oakland, seeing as their defense is so tough, yet Garcia getting on a roll would be a tough thing to stop. (And I might toss Pennington into that list as well.)
