I agree with D.H Cross that not all religions dangle carrots infront of people in form of an afterlife.
But, I want to ask anyone who might know. Are the religions that does promise some sort of afterlife most popular and widespread? As oppose to those that don't. [ August 03, 2002: Message edited by: Theli ]</p> |

The remarkable failing powers of prayers. Science uncovering more and more of origins questions and narrowing down gaps for a god(ess) to hide in. The sorry state of the world. Kent Hovind and friends. If you were God, all powerfull and whatever goes with the territory, would you allow such thundering morons to claim to represent you? The inspired, literally true word of God containing extreme scientific errors, and claims of dubious logical nature and conflicting statements. I could go on, but I think these'll do for a start...Oh and most of what previous posters've said as well. |

Hello SUTG. The reason I don't believe in God is that it makes no sense. I live in a logical, rational world where natural laws MUST be obeyed. To achieve anything I must use reason and rational thought. Believing in God means believing there is a creature out there who is not bounded by any of these natural laws. There is absolutely no objective evidence as to his existance. So to believe in him I must suspend all rational thought. That just doesn't make sense. In order for me to believe I must be shown overwhelming evidence of his existance. Anything short of that betrays the very method I use to survive.

I wonder if SUTG will ever answer any questions here, including mine. Most theistic types come here to confront atheists, not fellow theistic types from different branches on the religion tree. On the other foot, that can be a good thing, knowing all the psycho religious types we have here stalking atheists. |

If introductions are in order, since this is an atheist forum, don't you think it would be more polite of you to tell us why you do believe in God? And, welcome to the forums. |
