Default computer problem

Hi

I have a really annoying computer problem that involves antivirus software and my comp.

Both norton AV and macafee seem to hang all the time on my comp . It is usually during a full scan although not always.

When logging into windows XP in user mode , nortons and macafee used to hang . Some times i can get a full scan completed.

I am currently running NAV2003pro and a athlon XP2200 , 512 , 20g HD . I have never had problems with Av before ?

any ideas would be helpful ?

install a real mans OS.

General tips to speed up windows:

start -> run -> type "msconfig" without the quotes

remove everything except the stuff you WANT the comp to start with. basically just firewall and antivirus, but keep laptop battery, modem software, etc, too just use common sense.

remove all unused applications from hard drive. uninstall norton and macaffee.

remove all spyware. get adaware from www.download.com

use disk clean up

right click on start bar, find that option for clearing documents and clear them all (that can reaaally slow a comp down)

defragmentate

at this point you can either install norton OR macaffee, but not both. maybe its a software conflict. although I reccomend a third route, kaspersky antivirus. its much better than either norton or macaffee.

That might help. It might not. But if it doesn't help, it does at least help to narrow down the problem, and will speed your computer up in general.

That's the second time you've suggested it for solving computer problems. You realise you're sounding like a Christian? Evangelising, preaching, you know...

"Linux is the answer!"

"Linux saves!"

"Bill Gates is Antichrist!"

"Know Linux, know peace."

"Grovel before me, I'm your god!" (Linus Torvalds)

Actually its the fourth or fifth. =P But I usually accompany it with some pretty good advice on how to try to resolve the problem.
