Default How long does paint last?

I've got some old paint from when I first painted my bedroom before I moved in, so I think it's from Oct 94. It's a semi-gloss enamel for the woodwork. Do ya think it would still be good? I need to touch up.

Might not be good anymore. Do you turn over the can/pail every 6 months? If not, the pigments and other heavy additives might have settled at the bottom. I don't know the shelf-life for the paint you have, but most paints I am familiar with (epoxies and polyurethanes) are good for about 12-18 months. I think you should buy new paint.

I tried to some touch ups with an old can of paint and the color had changed slightly but noticeably...the paint was still good once I stirred it but I had to put a coat on the whole wall to blend the touched up spots. You may have the same problem with a new batch though in that there may a slight variation in the tinting.

Over time the color of paint changes slightly.

As for stirring it, the best solution I've found is a gadget that looks like a squirrel-cage fan with a long shaft that you can stick in a power drill.

Well I decided to just stir it up and see what I had. I did a test patch on a hidden spot and it looked good, so I did my touch ups and now I can't even hardly tell. Yay! Even if the color hadn't been perfect, I figured slightly mismatched green spots would be better than the glaringly white spots anyway.
