African hunting dogs have a different dental formula. So do dholes. So I think they are believed to be more distantly related.

I don't know for certain, but I'd say that domestic dogs/wolves/jackals, etc. (Genus Canis) and African hunting dogs (Genus Lycaon) would be incapable of interbreeding.
