In anticipation of how Koy will respond to my last post I thought I'd save him the trouble:

Koy: Fuck off agapeo!
Me: No you fuck off Koy!
Koy: No you fuck off!
Me: No you fuck off!
Koy: No you fuck off!
Me: Gee, I'm running out of things to say. How 'bout -- Drop dead!
Koy: No you drop dead!
Me: No you drop dead!
Koy: No you drop dead!
Me: Gee, is there anything else I can say? Oh, ok how 'bout this -- You're a turd!
Koy: No you're a turd!
Me: No you're a turd!
Koy: No you're a turd!
Me: Shoot, I've run outta things to say. Guess I better stop running off at the mouth then.

My guess is that, were such a dialog to get underway, partway through it a moderator might say <AHEM> and/or close the thread and/or send this whole thread to RRP. Since it would have degenerated into not a substantive discussion of any issue...

It's just a guess, though...

And that is what I would expect from a moderator, Helen. I would likewise expect that based on Koy's demonstration of his intelligence in previous posts that he would of resisted the "temptation" to even go where he went in the first place. But he did say he "couldn't resist" didn't he, which makes me wonder how much control he has over what he says. It seems to me that if a person is sorry for saying something, given the modern marvels of on-line discussions, one could simply delete the post and no harm would be done. Since Koy didn't take this option (assuming that he is aware that he had it) then no, I don't think he's really sorry. So why even say he was? If he merely said "bitch" without the qualifying statement of apology and then later returned after viewing responses to it and apologized I might have thought he meant it. No I don't think he cared about what he said. Either that or he doesn't give much thought to what he says.

I tend to agree with you that someone who says 'sorry [but]...' doesn't come across as especially sincere in the apology

I was hoping that his comment was teasing rather than especially serious...

Not that that justifies it, necessarily. But still, I was hoping so...

I would read it all, honestly, but I haf a bud ed culd, and his posts makes my eyes hurt.

Personally, as stated, I think A Theist Gal is well, kind of silly....
Herw's the short version, Typhon; you, Kally and Koy are behaving like bigoted kids in a sandbox, thinking it cool to use personal abuse, since obviously you can't drive someone off with rational argument.
I look forward to the next time you claim you are so much more rational than the theists.

Now did I use too many long words in that for you ?
_____________

Arrowman,

I do believe this thread is gone to the rubbish-dump.
Since it wouldn't appear that it's worth continuing. then to sum up the argument (from my POV of course); you don't like it when I call out people for inappropriate abuse, I say so what. Clear ?
End of story.

Probably a mistake to jump in here, but - I'm still trying to find out how someone who read Martin Gardner can join the Catholic Church as it is today. Theist Gal does not seem to be interested in defending her beliefs.

The question has been raised before as to whether an atheist has ever been converted by Christian arguments. In every case I have found where I can track the details, including Metacrock, the conversion of an atheist (whether truly an atheist or not) to Christianity has depended on emotional factors, and the rationalizations have followed.

I don't think it is wrong to convert for emotional reasons - emotions are an important part of life, and if you find something that gives you emotional peace in this short life, who am I to heap abuse on you. Many modern religions, under the influence of secularism and the requirements of the religious market place, have smoothed their rough edges and become almost civilized. I have not seen that happening in the Catholic Church.
