I think some people are having trouble with a little concept I like to call "sarcasm."

Love 'em, myself, for pretty much all the above reasons. Happy childhood memories, fun college bonding moments (24 people crammed in an 11x11 dorm room watching the widescreen Special Editions on a 13" screen
![]() "So be it, 'Jedi!'" The Star Wars franchise as a whole is just a lot of fun, even if it isn't particularly "great" film and literature. Even the music is trite, but to this day I can't hear the 20th Century Fox fanfare without tingling with anticipation of a yellow crawl against a starry background. There's just something about the movies (even the new ones) that, due to a confluence of factors, transports me in ways that nothing else can. I'm also pretty weird as far as sci-fi fans go. I like Star Wars. I like Star Trek. I like Babylon 5. I like Stargate SG-1. I like Farscape (*sniff*). And liking any one of these somehow manages to not detract from liking the others. Now I'm not saying it's morally wrong to not like them, obviously. It's aesthetics, after all. But I can't quite grok the attitude that because someone's a fan of one they're contractually obligated to dislike other sci-fi... Sorry you don't like Star Wars, Gar. It's all good though. At least, I don't plan to put out a hit ![]() |

KoopaFanatic, you gave me goosebumps. No matter how many times I see ANY of the Star Wars movies, the beginning always hits me, hooks me and reels me in. I enjoyed all of the SW movies. Each has it's good and bad points, mostly good to me. Suzanne |

Yes, Stargate and Stargate SG1. The best scifi series ever, in my opinion. I love the idea of 'gods' being aliens trying to dominate the universe.

The old ones are decent. They're not the greatest sci-fi flicks ever.
The last two could have been better. Episode 1 was ruined by Jar Jar Binks. You have to admit though that it had the best lightsaber battle of all time though. Episode 2 was ruined by C-3P0 and some of his corny lines. Lucas needs to go back to writing epic sagas and leave the comedy for some of the people that are better at it. And the lightsaber battle is usually the best part of the movies. The battle with Yoda and Dooku was horrible. Yoda looked totally fake with all his flipping and jumping off the walls. And its just silly to see a grown man battle with a two foot tall toad. If they wanted to give Yoda a big part there at the end he should have just walked in and started shooting lightning out of his hands and remained calm in the nice, wise yoda way. They made Yoda look ridiculous. Lucas has lost his touch. There were many scenes in Episode 2 that just seemed half assed or not complete. For example when Annakin found his mother. He walks out of the tent and slashes one guy and then it cuts away. Then we see him talking about how he killed them all. I understand they didn't want to show all the violence because they wanted a PG rating. They could have done something nice and cinematic like showing him slash one guy then zooming out and showing the village from high up in the sky at an angle. Wouldn't it look good to see the little fires randomly spread out and a light saber swinging around as it progresses through the village. Lucas has no talent. He must have had a lot of help with Star Wars and Indiana Jones. I heard they're going to make another Indiana Jones. I bet it will suck too. |

I love all sci-fi.
I am more of a Star Trek fan than a Star Wars fan though. Part of the reason may be that I grew up watching Star Trek with my Dad. Also, I'm in lust with Data (the character not the actor behind the character). I was born in 1973 so I was too young to jump on the Star Wars bandwagon. P.S. The Beatles suck! |

I wouldn't say that Starwars sucks, but I would say that it isn't nearly as good as the cult following thinks it is.
As for Stargate, the movie, quite frankly i found horrid. The series, was alright, nothing spectacular though. Back to starwars, It's a product of the era it was created in, as such, It's very hard to view it as anything but the work of a bygone era that turned into a cult following. Starwars, quite frankly until the new episodes came out, never updated itself, it sat their, stagnant. Even with the new ones, the main reason people go to see it, are the famous ILM graphics, and Yoda kicking some ass. |
