I think id.s. has realised that he has an array of women (oppressed), non-europeans (oppressed) and other oppressed minorities arrayed against him, and is reconsidering his theories.

And aside: I meant it when I said his/her heart is in the right place. Too often the opinions expressed on this thread are a subtle indicator of disguised racism and sexism in other contexts.

There's enough peeps on these boards who've moved beyond that and are able to make light of it because they've moved beyond common bigotries, not because they're trying to disguise some alternate agenda. I don't think id.s has fully grasped that yet. But I do think he's got a point, even though he's preaching to the choir.

Farren and stiletto, I'm glad you've agreed that there are more possibilities than just the ones we believe. I have nothing to gain by being the way I am or saying the things I do, but frustration and disappointment with the way things are discussed here such as racism sexism and genderism drives me to be an obvious asshole.

My condolences and hopes that now tronvillain, Ju'iblex and catalyst and stiletto will forgive my intrusive nature. I do this in hopes that we all seek understanding by each of us looking at different perspectives. I am working on this too, so that I don't always have to feel as though I'm right. I just want people to articulate in their own lives, where our knowledge and understanding comes from. I believe that we need to examine our lives, our beliefs and the impact that our actions have on others.

Who cares if we have differences. That is what creates diversity in life. Sometimes the hardest questions in life are the ones that are hardest to face.

If we can get past our differences and focus on the issues, then more of us can work on finding solutions. Don't forget, many of you are well educated and are real heros to your community as a whole. You represent the image of normalicy in America- as you move through your chosen fields, don't ignore your heritage and your past.

Farren- Not me taking back their land, but you mentioned that your people took it back? I would like to know what happened from your perspective. Are the non - African's somehow still in control of certain aspects of South African life? , or do they still influence any other aspect of your country? For instance, here in Canada we have no culture aside from the many cultures that migrated here from other countries and of course First Nations, but aside from that, Canadian's have no culture! The fact that you are in South Africa can give us a closer perspective and a better feel for what life is like there.

justashooter- love your perspective shot- but you sound like a man in a comfortable adult relationship grounded in fairness and honesty. Looking up at things- thats really quite beautiful. See there is a time and a place to illuminate how a woman exemplifies the pleasure they can bring, and they appreciate the things we say. It's when we say it and for what reason that defines its implication- positive or negative- the message is the medium-steeped in semantics and semiotics we define and confuse who we are by what we should be, what others see us becoming.

Like most things that the law tries to regulate, any time and any place seems to be the norm of society.

Whats wrong with saying that a micro comment can't be the start of consent in society for all the other ills that society seems incapable of remedying. Are we looking too much at the macro and not enough at the micro? Later on I'll elaborate on this.

Ju'iblex, I'll get back to your last post. Don't forget, I've watched the womens movement grow from its infancy. Sorry, just finishing off my last 2 papers for school and am stretched between commitments and an incredible summer, here on the west coast, on an island in the pacific.....

Anyhow, on heterosexuality as abnormal: It depends on how you interpret "heterosexuality".

Heterosexuality in the sense that it excludes homosexuality might be considered abnormal (socially); the Greeks, for example, got along just fine with bisexual relations. Personally, I'm strictly heterosexual, but people of other orientations don't bother me. (My girlfriend's bisexual, for what that's worth.)

Heterosexuality as in "sexual relations with opposite sex" really doesn't have any logical argument against it, seeing as that it's generally a necessity for special (adj. of species) survival.

I've split this part of the discussion from The most attractive part of a woman's body thread in ~E~. I made up the current title for this discussion. If someone has a better one for it, please let me or one of the MD mods know what would be a better thread title.

I would like to see the speculation about the personal details of other users stop. Attack the arguments, but this thread has clearly demostrated how useless such speculations are.
