Arrow Amnesty International slams "War on Terror"

(link to article)

from the article:

Quote:
The U.S.-led "war on terror" has made the world more dangerous and left people feeling less secure, Amnesty International said Wednesday.
Ah, yes. The "war on terror" is making the world less safe. But is that the intent? Or is this okay since the intent is to make the US safer (screw the world)? Is the US any safer since the "war on terror" was declared?

I think the "war on drugs" comparison is waxing truer and truer.

Ugh. I wanna puke.

Personally, my cynicism is in freefall since Drubya took office.

Enough so that I'm going to predict that Sharon will be promising "negotiations" on Hallibush's Roadmap to Peace ... until about two days after Election Day '04.

If I'm wrong .. I'll be delighted to eat my words.

of course the intent is to make the US safer, not the world. for all the bush regime could care (and they have shown this!!) screw the rest of the world. as long as the US is safe, that is all they care.
Ick, not the "war on drugs" again, by now we should know that the whole thing is utter shite.

1. Like the war in drugs, the so-called War on Terrorism is good for America in the long run.

Since you don't deal in opinions, then I can assume that this is a fact? Should I just take your word for it?

I'm curious about his definition of "good."

I suppose imprisoning and/or killing people does get them off the unemployment roles.

Is this a great country, or what?

The War on Terror is good for military contractors and rebuild-Iraq contractors and large oil companies in the US.

It is also good for the Bush administration, since it affords an excuse to (a) attack any country at will, preferably ones with oil and dictatorial leaders with facial hair, (b) build up the US military even further, past its already 19-times-bigger-than-all-competitors-combined level, (c) crack down on dissidents at home and cow the Democrats into turning over all power to the Fuhrer, I mean, the Executive, (d) dry up all government money that aids the poor so that they will be forced to join the army or otherwise live at menial tasks and not complain.

What could be better?

Terrorism (or the constant rumor of terrorism) creates fear, and a fearful people is stupid and will go along with any bonehead plan.

"Good" in the sense that it is conducive to executing their long term goals.

I prolly shouldn't even reply to this, but...

The "war in [sic] drugs" is good for America in the long run? Oh, you mean funnelling tax money into a losing "battle" against no real enemy? Yeah, that's good. And filling our prisons full of pot smokers and small-time dealers is great for America, too. Plus the black market created by this war on drugs is really good for the American economy AND is wonderful fodder for violent hollywood action movies.

Yeah, all that is good in the long run. And it is indicative of exactly what's good in the long run with respect to the war on terror. Good analogy!

I can't think of one good thing -- long term or short -- about the war on terror. Not one. If someone can kindly point one good thing out, I'd be ever so grateful.
