In Hinduism there are plenty such examples. Offhand I remener two:
Caitanya was a 16th century saint, a real historical figure, who was deified immediately after his death. His followers swore they saw his soul merging with the statue of God. In 19th cnetury, Ramkrishna Paramhamsa was declared to be the manifestation of Supreme God while he was alive. |

yessir, doesn't take much to become a god......just enough people who say you're a god, and presto!, you're divine.
