I would, however, put some money on 'The Hobbit' being put on film in the next few years.

Ab_Normal, I'd have to completely agree.
I'm excited for X-Men 2, mainly for Nightcrawler, and seeing Jackman play Wolverine again. I thought he played the character incredibly well.
Now you're making me want to watch X-Men tonight.

I voted for Matrix reloaded, although I wonder if it could be another downhill sequel, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hey, has anybody heard anything recently about a sequel to Gladiator for this coming year or so?

And as much as I enjoyed The Matrix, I'm dubious about its follow-ups. Aren't the vast majority of sequels garbage?
It was my understanding that it was originally planned to be a triology. Movies that are planned as part of a series (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars etc...) normally turn out well.

A 'The Hobbit' is a strong possibilty as I believe that the rights to the novel are no longer in the hands of the Tolkien family. This is why that terrible animated version was able to be produced.

I would like to see some movies based on some of the stories in 'The Silmarillion'. Unfortunately the chances of this is slim as the Tolkiens still have the rights to the book

Christopher Tolkien hated the movies from what I gather.

EDITED TO ADD - I just checked and one webpage says that NewLine has the rights to both 'The Hobbit' and 'The Silmarillion' but I this contradicts what I have read elsewhere - does anyone here know for sure?

Star Wars: A New Hope (The first movie, noted as Episode IV in the crawl) was nearly a whole movie unto itself. Mr. Lucas wasn't sure he'd get to do the whole story when ANH was being put together. It wasn't until after the public flocked to it that Lucas realized he could take his sweet time and tell the story as he wanted to do. It can be argued that the quality of the story (-ies) has decreased since Return of the Jedi.

You said you loved Dumb and Dumber! What is wrong with The Hot Chick? BTW, do you like movies like Little Nicky (Sandler is the son of Satan) and Freddy Got Fingered (with Tom Green)?
