The bible is full of old science. The original first story of creation was the explanation of how the universe was formed and was to be taken literally. The science in the bible has been shown long ago to be devoid of information, though not all of it is wrong. But he is a fool who builds his house on sand? I'd say not. He is a fool who builds his house on peat or other organic material or who founds his pipes shallower than the frost depth, etc...

How true. . . for you. But its far from pointless if you have a great psychological need to reconcile two beliefs/observations that seem to be in conflict, like a creation story and modern science, or a loving, omnipotent god and a cruel, uncaring bitch of a universe.
