Hrmm... If I knew a damn thing about politics, I'd be all for it. As it is, I'm just a supply officer; maybe I'd be better at something else-- like making sure there's enough pencils on your desk.

Ixnay, Puck. Georgia is just part of the big fat leather belt that loops around and chokes the South, but terracotta is correct. The "buckle" is the head piece, so to speak. The place where most of the money flows in to and out of, for protestant christian causes. Since Nashville is also known as the Protestant Vatican and the infamous location for the sprawling headquarters of the notorious Southern Baptist Convention (now called "LifeWay"), representing 15 million+ righteous southern baptists all over the world......the buckle is definitely right here.

The SBC HQ and its various buildings are connected by an immense and elaborate series of underground tunnels beneath the city. They're like sewer rats!

Question

Does anyone know why the bible belt is in the south and not somewhere else in the continental US? I can think of a few reasons it's not out west or up north, but I don't know quite why it IS here... know what I mean?

I think up North (and on the West Coast) you have a larger percentage of people who have a more advanced education, are more skeptical in general, are more liberal and/or tolerant, and are not accustomed to the same religious cultural phenomena that exists in the South. There are less people in the south that are educated beyond high school (less questioning...more accepting), and, from a cultural perspective, more families simply attend church at least twice a week, and therefore are indoctrinated into religion from an early age.

I don't know what the exact stats are, but in the South, I would guess that 7 or 8 in 10 attend church, versus 2 to 4 out of 10 up North and in the West.

You can't go to anything poltical while in uniform.
But you are allowed to work on and for poltical campaigns while on active duty.

Point well made, MOJO-JOJO. Perhaps Georgia is the part of the belt right above the crack in the ass.

All told though, it a good place for me to live, but the churchs and inhabitants are abundant.

I agree with mojo jojo in that here in on the west coast it is practically impossible to be completely ignorant. I have never been in any public place where there was a majority of a race or religion. I feel that this diversity allows us to be very tolerant of others beliefs. I know here in Long Beach and Los Angeles that most races and religions are equal in numbers. In northern CA there is a little less diversity but the number of homosexuals are higher. I've been to the south and (no offence) I couldn't stand it. Everybody was practically the same like they all came out of the same easy bake oven. I think it is hard to learn about diversity when most people think and act the same way. I saw a lot of conformity there and I have to ask just because it is so foreign to me what would possess people to live in the south? Are there any redeaming qualities? Would just like to know and understand better.
