By the way, what method is used to accurately measure the heights of cliffs and buldings, etc?

mesure the distance from a point a few hundred meteres out to the base, then mesure the observed angle to the top. since you have a right-angle triangle, you can use trig to find the hight of the object.

Or you can just use an altimeter, or drop a rope and mesure it, many methods.
