I know you're in college and on limited funds, but if you can scrape up $15 or $20 you can get new one at CompUSA, Target, lots of places. I picked an IBM keyboard up at a thrift store yesterday for $7.95. (I didn't need one, but it's small, black, and elegant). If you have any friends in Computing Services see if they have any surplus ones, or even one you can borrow till your dad's shipment arrives. My employer has bins full of keyboards in the basement.

Chicken girl. It looks like the water roasted some of the electronics in the keyboard.
To all, if this ever happens to you, unplug the keyboard from your computer as fast as possible! Water per se will not hurt the keyboard. But when the keyboard has power (like when it is plugged into the computer), water can cause a short. In the best case, the keyboard is fried. In the worst case (I've seen this happen twice), the computer gets fried, so don't waste any time, and don't type anything. Once the keyboard is unplugged, turn it upside down and remove the screws that holds the top and bottom case together. Open the back (carefully, don't force it because there may be tabs that hold it together, You'll see some rectanglular shaped slots with a tab in the center, use a flat screwdriver to release them and the shell should come off easily). Now you can clean the case. If you spilled something sticky (like a cola), you can rinse the electronic board in some clean water, or even run it through the top rack of your dishwasher (no soap, and turn off the "dry" function). Don't laugh, my son has done this. It really works. Once the keyboard is clean, let it air dry thoroughly. Shake it to loosen any trapped water, then, let it air dry thoroughly. One more thing, let it air dry thoroughly. Once it is thoroughly dry, you can put it back together again, Just make sure that you let it air dry thoroughly. Now comes the moment of truth, plug it into the computer, and if you let it air dry thoroughly, then all should be well. |

I'm not sure what seems to be the problem. You're making just as much sense as you normally do.
