I think the right made a trade of Ariana Huffington to the left in exchange for Christopher Hitchens and two draft picks. |

And what's your point, themistocles? That just because Saddam's regime was bad that Our Side is entitled to be at least as bad?

(Sorry, repeated post)
Also, should some con artist or a burglar be allowed to go free because he had not murdered anyone as part of his crimes? |

I suppose whenever one were to ask "what Iraqi firm lost the contract?", the answer is the sound of crickets chirping.

How many firms were given a chance to bid on the contract?

How many such firms exist?
And while we're at it, nobody's a big fan of the Halliburtons and Enrons of the world, but the big cheese do not exist in a vacuum. Why punish the working joes twice over for the sins of the few? |

Why make excuses for crooks who exploit their political connections?
And why suddenly feel sorry for average working people? Whichever companies get the rebuilding contracts will have to hire people to do the job, even if it means hiring lots of people away from those companies that didn't get those jobs. |

Thousands of civilians alone have died because of Coalition intervention. How many have to die? When the Iraqi people demand their independance, how many will die in Coalition/US efforts to maintain control? I have no doubt that any efforts to throw out the US will be met with violence. Outsiders are not wanted there, and I don't think that Coalition forces will be tolerated for much longer. In the end, the US will have murdered so many people that Saddam's actions will pale by comparison.

Who cares? Just so long as Iraq is rebuilt and eventually returned to its people.

Instead of blowing up buildings in another countries, and they squandering the money to replace/repair it? Why are we throwing the money away on oil, which will run out in the next 40-50 years anyway instead of investing in other technologies??? Money does not grow on trees. There are priorities. And blowing our money on "rebuilding Iraq" after we destroyed it is about the useful as throwing away money in the trash. |
