My source does not reveal what distance the formula uses. However, it gives the interesting example of Jupiter’s three big satellites – Io, Europe and Ganymede – which orbit around Jupiter in 1.77; 3.55 and 7.16 days. Each number is the double of the previous one. The question remains, though: does this, or other possible examples, have a meaningful significance as to the real world? Is it instinctive misperception? Or cultural prejudice? Or what? (Am I relentless, or what?) AVE |

Laurentius:
I found a link about this: Io 89.3 billion billion tons 1.77 days to orbit Europa 48 billion billion tons 3.55 days to orbit Ganymede 148 billion billion tons 7.15 days to orbit Callisto 108 billion billion tons 16.7 days to orbit So there are the four biggest moons of Jupiter... and note that Ganymede is the biggest, then Callisto, then Io, then Europa. The three moons you mentioned are the 3rd, 4th, and 1st biggest moons. |

as to the number 12 in relation to the universe,
in astrology there are 12 major constelatons and each is said to have significant impact on our lives ancients looked heavily at the stars, espially around the spring equinox. the position of a spaecific constellation in the sky at this point was believed to have an impact on the following year, by the way it takes approximately 2160 years for one constellation to be completely replaced by another as they shift position year by year the number twelve is threaded through the beliefs of most of the ancient civilizations starting with sumer and continuing on through babylon, greece, phoenicia, egypt, india and israel |

I’ll keep fueling the hypothesis that reality may be arranged numerically. Jupiter’s satellites Ganymede, Europe and Io make up a system. While Io revolves four times around Jupiter, Europe does the same thing twice and Ganymede once; after this interval the three of them return exactly in the same relative position from which the observation initially began. This phenomenon indicates that their system bears a mathematical resonance, which is 4:2:1. Another example of inner resonance is the system formed by the Earth and its natural satellite (where the resonance is 1:1, i.e. the Moon rotates around its axis in a period equal to the time it revolves around the Earth), or Mercury and the Sun. Mercury’s spinning takes 58.65 days while its revolution around the Sun lasts 87.97 days. Since 2 x 87.97 = 175.94 and 3 x 58.65 = 175.95, Mercury’s rotational and orbital periods show the resonance 2:3. Here’s yet another example pointing at the numerical organization of a class of phenomena commonly believed to lack any orderliness: chaos. Everyone must have heard water dripping from a tap that is out of order. Many times the drops fall in a constant succession, but if one turns on the tap a little more to slightly increase flow, the dripping pattern will start falling chaotically. One can listen to it for minutes without detecting any regularity. However, in 1978 it was mathematically proved that if the intervals between three successive drops are known, then the moment when the next drop will fall can be determined highly accurately. For instance, if the last three intervals between drops were 0.63 seconds, 1.17 seconds and 0.44 seconds, then the next drop is sure to fall in 0.82 seconds. This bunch of graduates from the University of California in Santa Cruz actually say that if the moments of the first three (apparently random) drops are known exactly, then the whole future of the system can be predicted. So, there is a numerical foundation of reality after all, isn’t there? AVE |

Don't forget about the The Number 4. Sorry, I lent the magazine to a friend.
Although I don't have the article in front of me I remember that this group was compared to other groups which did not show the same pattern. The article did point out the significance of "4", but I cannot remember exactly what it represented culturally. Michael would surely know. joe |
