Default Stupid F****** Lower 48 and all it's Stupid F****** Bugs!

Actually, I have rather been enjoying seeing how the majority of my fellow countrymen live, but these scorpions and brown recluce spiders and black widows and all those nasty little fuckers freak me out!

Hell, the only thing in Alaska to be afraid of are Bears and Protective Momma Moose.

What kind of purpose does a damn scorpion or black widow serve anyway. Damnit!

As you no doubt can tell, I have already had a few close encounters. From now on shoes will be shaken vigorusly (sp)? upside down before being put on. Damnit!

You're forgetting mosquitos that travel in swarms large enough to make Alfred Hitchcock proud.

Ever been out on the tundra? Blackflies the size of bumble bees and jaws that will rip out almost as much flesh. And they swarm.

My friend, let me let you in on a little secret:

APPARATUS
- A chopstick
- A normal garden spray bottle (preferably with adjustable spray nozzle)
- Gasoline or other highly flammable fuel
- Trigger lighter
- Duct tape
- Aluminum foil

PROCEDURE
- Fill the spray bottle with fuel
- Duct tape chopstick to side of spray bottle frame
- Wrap chopstick in aluminum foil
- Duct tape lighter, facing forward, to chopstick
- Duct tape a blast deflector to front of lighter, so that lighter flame will be directed toward the spray axis
- Adjust so that you can pull both the pump AND lighter triggers simultaneously.

BUG ERADICATION PROCEDURE
- Center target bug in front of spray bottle, range ~2 feet
- Pull triggers
- Repeat

Anyway, yes, I have done it. No, it is not easy. Yes, it is VERY satisfying to watch a cloud of fornicating gnats spiral in the wind trailing smoke. No, I am not sadistic in my human relations.

I've always found a candle and an aerosol can of bug spray to work equally well... and it has the added advantage of poisoning the little buggers if you happen to miss with the flame.

Just don't hold the button down too long or the little plastic sprayer nozzle melts into your flesh.

You should draw up a diagram. I can kinda visualize what is being done, but I'm a little lost.

Regarding the title of the thread, I second it. I'm in Michigan, which isn't so bad on the big poisonous arthropod end of things, but the damn mosquitos, especially in da UP, and the chiggers, and gnats, and blackflies, and deerflies, and horseflies that take out chunks of flesh.... And I'm particularly allergic to Mosquito spit, so I get these quarter sized welts for each bite. Let's suffice it to say that I know how to use bug spray, and I particularly like to see the damn things suffer, or if prolonged death isn't possible, to smush them flat.

I, too, am not sadistic in my human relations, or relations with pretty much anything else. Spiders are another story, though.

While in Alaska I used to use "Ben's 100" repellant when hunting and hiking. It is the only thing I ever found that works. Of course it contains enough deet to kill a small elephant, but hey, it kept the gnats, flies, mosquitoes and just about practically everything else off.

Default Alaska!

I live in Alaska, and I do not fear bears. for the most part they are just a nuisance, getting into garbage, and making a mess.

The bugs are not that bad in Juneau, yet been seeing more and more spiders
