In fact the entire frigging book is probably the best single-volume macerating of creationism there is. This is quite the most ridiculous bit out out-of-contextness I’ve seen. I think I’ll e-mail Prof Futuyma and point this out to him... I’d not like to be in the same room when he sees it though!

I really don't think that it is a misquote to omit the name of a subtitle of a book. That is done 95% of the time. The ommission pointed out in a later post notwithstanding, this passage is very commonly quoted by the creationists. This site was not trying to say that Futuyma was a creationist, indeed the '*' before his name in that web site means that the quoted person is not a creationist. Rather, they are trying to set up a false dichotomy.

Sure. The misquote is leaving off the rest of the sentence, and placing what is used in a context totally antithetical to how it was meant. Quoting from a book that counters everything they're saying shows just how low they'll stoop to deliberately mislead people. Lying for god... hmmm...

Actually, I had two pieces of pizza before I sat down to write the last post.

Ahh, the power of cheese!

Speaking of quotes, I always find it very frustrating when I read creationist literature containing a quote in the following format:

Dr. John Smith, a prominent evolutionary biologist, once stated "blah blah hideously out of context quote supposedly undermining evolution

You would think that the sheep would have enough critical thinking ability to be somewhat suspicious that an 'evolutionist' launches into a quote saying evolution is rubbish. That's like a full time priest admitting god is a big fairy story!

They just claim that he knows evolution is crap but he still clings to it on faith because he wants to avoid accepting responsibility to god or some other such crap.
