It does, and it took me a long time before I realised that that was not what people meant.

Oliebol anyone?

Cool

Linda, I don't think Gurdur's gonna be of much help. He speaks reasonable Deutch, but virtually no Dutch. On that note, you do not want to know what that "Kankerhoeren" word Hugo posted means. (Hugo; godverdomme niet zo vloeken teringlijer!)

Lunachick: Ah Haarlem. province capitol of Northern Holland; and coincidently my favorite city.

Amie... thse dts may be called an mlaut in german, but they serve a different function there (to distinguish how to pronounce certain vowels). In dutch they're used in the same way the french do (to indicate how two neigboring vowels are part of seperate cylables... like in potry), and called a trema.

Deadend... gelukkig nieuwjaar, en geef de oliebollen door.

Mmm, my Mom's making Oliebollen tomorrow, I'll be there bright and early. I'm of Dutch Indo descent. My favorite Dutch treat is Bitterballen though.

*Chicken Girl strolls into the thread, feeling mighty badass after receiving her grade for her German course last semester*

Fnf means "five". And you forgot the umlaut, Dave

(I can't do umlauts on this computer.)

(actually, I probably can, but I'm too lazy to bother trying. )

(edit: HA! Now I can! )

Here you go, Chicken Girl; just open this post by "reply/quote", then copy-and-paste the umlauts for later use.

and let's not forget the "sharp-s"

Happy New Year !
