I think I've mentioned before in a previous thread that certain hospitals have installed 'symbols' in ORs etc that can only be seen from a high vantage point. The idea is to see if any patients who report a NDE describe these symbols in their account.
In the 70's when OBEs were being reported more and more, my sister a RN told me they were putting signs on top of shelves and lights in the OR. She said even some nurses would have messages on their caps. She was a OR nurse at Bethesda, Saint Johns MC and UCLA during that time. No one ever mentioned messages.

Feed your anger. Good. It only brings you closer to the Dark Side. Do not fight it. It is your destiny.

Well, I for one view death as a FACT. We all die and our dead bodies are evidence of that fact. Until someone comes back from being truly dead (not just heart stopping and starting again), I don't think there is any reason to think there is any existence after death.
Just to nitpick, physically speaking, we all quite obviously continue our existence after death. The question is whether we continue to be somehow conscious, even though our scientific knowledge demonstrates strongly against this possibility.

And the phrase, "fear of death," is problematic at best. Why would anyone have a fear of death or a belief in an afterlife unless he or she had not already concluded that death is real, even if subconsciously? For if not real, why the fear and antidotal afterlife?

The argument for and against an afterlife seems rooted in a clear acceptance of the reality of death, fear being only a reinforcing and secondary motivation.

Cipher Girl,
The fear of death comment was not directed at your post but was just a general comment.

Didn't people learn anything from the Circumcision and Acupuncture threads? Let me remind you. This is Science and Skepticism, not Abuse. If you can't be polite don't participate, okay?

Seems to me that the late 60's and early 70's was when you could sometimes find real Acapulco Gold. That explains most OBE's right there.
