Literally millions of Americans have been abducted by aliens, if you believe some of the more extreme claims by "UFOlogists."

I like Sagan's response to this in The Demon-Haunted World: "What, not one of them thought to palm a tricorder when the aliens weren't looking?"

Cheers,

Michael

What, you think aliens with super-advanced anal-probing technology wouldn't notice a tricorder?

That's very true. He never came out of hiding to work in our local fish & chip shop until at least '95.

In reply to Plebe

<<In the 1940's or 50's according to a WWII Veteran who was there at the time, our White House was 'buzzed' by a 'V' shaped cluster of disk shaped UFO's which none of our Air Force jets at the time could chase>>

Notice that the only evidence offered is "according to a WWII veteran." What was this veteran's name? Where is he now? Did he write it down?

This is anecdotal evidence. The same as urban legend. The Roswell incident and the story of the recovered bodies is the same sort of thing. I also am a WWII veteran. Does that fact confer any special evidential value to something I might say? Does it mean that I have above average powers of observation?

Actually this one is quite well documented, 1952. It ran in the newspapers, congress held hearings. They eventually wrote it off as one of those “heat inversions” we all see so often.

I saw an interview on TV with one of the radar controllers, he said pretty much "heat inversion my ass, those guys were panicked and had no clue”, the pilot was surrounded by 3 heat inversions and asked what he was supposed to do, he got no reply. The heat inversions took off, the planes went back to their bases, then the heat inversions returned and buzzed the White House again.

Marduck

Well I think it's pretty strange that I can't recall anything about it. In 1952 I was a co-pilot on Capital Airlines and was flying into and out of National airport on a regular basis. And your post adds no new evidence. When was this t.v. interview? Recently or soon after the incident?

". When was this t.v. interview? Recently or soon after the incident?"

The guy interviewed was pretty old, it looked like they talked to him recently. This was all on a show about UFO's where they interviewed various pilots, air traffic controllers and such. They did show the original newspaper clippings, spring or summer of 1952. This incident is pretty famous on all UFO websites, books and TV shows along with the California incident in 1942 where lights were spotted heading toward LA, the Army thought it was the Japanese and started shooting but nothing was shot down etc. etc. etc.
All this was before I was born anyway.
You don't watch enough tabloid TV do ya?

Disclaimer: I am quite skeptical about the idea of UFO's being extra-terrestrial spacecraft. That being said.

IF the SETI search were to find relatively local signals (from neighboring star systems), I would take the proposition that space craft may have visited us more seriously. I just don't think it likely that such signals will be found (even though I am doing SETI at Home).
