Plagiarism 1. To use and pass off as one's own (the ideas or writings of another). 2. To appropriate for use as one's own passages or ideas from (another). . . . whereas I found your style entertaining, there was nothing original about the story. I heard the same general ideas in the writings of others. Don’t let that disturb you though – the same is said regarding the Bible. Satire
1. a. A literary work in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony, derision, or wit. b. The branch of literature constituting such works. See synonyms at caricature. 2. Irony, sarcasm, or caustic wit used to attack or expose folly, vice, or stupidity. I saw your story as satire and as such felt no inclination to debate it (even if I had the time to do so). Besides my original comments were in response to this: Quote:
In any case, since you took my post that serious and you perhaps have a valid point then I will simply shut-up but not before extending my apology. I really didn’t think you’d take it all that serious. |

Apology accepted agapeo. As I said, plagiarism is no light charge to level at a writer, and I have to take any such charges seriously. Yes, "Bob" is satire and it was intended to do just what your definition above said. I can't speak for P.Duck, but I am also surprised that the religious community has had such a weak response to "Bob." Good satire has the ability to point out the flaws in any dogma, and I think "Bob" did that pretty well. And as evidenced by the theist crowd's inability to put up any kind of meaningful response to it, they must think so also. PS, You should change your word program from smart quotes to plain quotes so when people copy your posts it doesn’t come out looking like the one above does in the copy window. You can find a link in bugs, problems and complaints that tells you how to do it, here. David [ November 17, 2002: Message edited by: David M. "The story of Bob" is a pretty strong attack on religious beliefs. What Mr. Payne said makes sense to me even if it is satire and good satire makes one think. I find many stories in the bible make no sense at all! [ November 22, 2002: Message edited by: peekingduck ]
|
