Default Parallel Universes

Why do idiots like Hawking postulate parallel universes to this one if you cant go there to check? Conversely, if it's purely an abastract concept, what does it matter what angle they're at?

Interesting article.

If I understood this one correctly (which I cannot guarantee), the consequences of parallel universes might be observable, even if the universes are not. Except for any possible Level I universes, where the only thing seperating us would be distance.
If I totally got the wrong end of this, then please explain what it really means... (not jibing, but genuinely interested).

We couldn't very well have perpendicular universes now could we? That would ruin everything!

Why not? That's my point exactly. The number of possible angles is infinite. It doesn't always have to be 180. When you look at the heavens there are precious few galaxies parallel to ours. What makes anyone think universes would be any different?

An acute question; you are not being obtuse.

In essence, it all comes down to auld lang Sines.
