Since humans are social animals, they relate to everything in a social way. This includes talking to animals, cars, the weather, etc, as though those things are human. I think that talking to a god is the same thing as a person anthromorphizing (?) their environment or the universe in general.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

Don't you have better things to do than spout rhetoric from the Bible at us?

I do not necessarily think humans need a God, maybe some feel so I just think that many people want to believe that there is more out there than what we have here in this world, in this life...

Quote:
Why do you believe in one, and why would humans be better off worshipping something which we have no indication even exists?
I believe in God because I want to believe in God. Aside from the fact that my God belief is all I have ever known, I feel that it is right for me...

Quote:
Why should humans believe in and worship a god?
I don't think people should believe or worship for any particular reasons. I find comfort in my own belief, but I cant expect someone to find that same comfort from my belief. So to each their own.

Shadow,
Boy, are you lost. No one in this forum is going to quote John 3:16 unless they want to make fun of it.
first of all Shadow does not appear lost to me, he is asking a question. The ones who would be lost would be the ones who don't ask.
oh and you better believe if I was quoting scripture I would not be "making fun of it"...
most atheists I know are not anti-theists.

And no one is going to answer why you need a god. 'cause in the first, we believe you don't need a god.
who is this "we" you are speaking for?? speak for yourself and yourself alone bub!
and no one is going to answer shadow?
why not?

Shadownought I think the people that feel you should believe are the ones that would feel lost without their God belief...

Shucks. She called me love bug duh huh :stupid grin:

As a smartass atheist I'd say you need a god, because all your neighbors and friends got one, and they make great pets.

But on a serious note, I don't think to believers it's a matter of need, but rather erm... belief.

That is true, maybe I shouldn't speak on anyone's behalf...so I'll restate: "You don't need a God."

You also said, "Not all atheist are anti-theist..." Sad but true. I've read a lot of post here that supports your claim.

I think there was this atheist father who was tutoring his son on religion.

And then there is this other atheist guy who would kick my ass, if he ever gets a chance, because his girlfriend is a devout Catholic.

You also said that there is a need for this post in this forum.

OK, ok, there is a place for this kind of stuff.
It's a freethinker forum--everything is to be discussed--everything is to be doubted-- nothing is to be held sacred. Not even atheism.

why would you think it is "sad"? why would you prefer all atheists to be anti-theist? Just curious...

Humans do not need a God and religion does not aim to give humans a God. Religion must give humans an idea of God that foreshadow events that someday must become a reality without religion.

The worship part does not really belong in religion but absorption, veneration and admiration does.

On the one hand:

Can any of the theists on the board tell me

On the other hand:

why humans need a god?

I could understand it if the first part had "atheists" instead of "theists". Atheists assume people believe in God because they need to. But here you're asking theists why they need a god, which is damn contradictory. Theists don't think they need a god, they believe God exists and you need Him, not the other way round.

My apology for harshness, but I think your question was worded badly from the start.

God creates fallable creatures knowing that they would fail.

Then he/it/they create a hell to send said fallable creatures to.

Then it/they/he threatens them with it's hell.

THEN it/she/him/her/it/they/3=1 comes and "redeems" the fallable creatures, but only if they admit that they suck big time.

So, after a very roundabout trip, he/she/him/it/they/them/tres hombres finally brings the best of his crappy creations to heaven while all the others suffer forever and ever amen.

What wierd game is this god of yours playing?
