I first heard about IIDB in the lounge. I later heard about it in the kitchen.

Someone sent me a PM with a link over at the Urban Legends Reference Pages message board (SNOPES) thinking I would be interested after I went off on a couple of fundies about how preposterous (or did I say silly) I thought their religion was. I've been an infrequent poster over there since January and was cleaning out my email when I found the one linking me here. Joined about 10 minutes afterward, it's been interesting. There are a lot of really intelligent people here.

My friend at work said he liked a site called infidels.org, and a couple months later I visited, liked it, and can't stop posting!

Ditto for the 'If you set yourself on fire do not run thread'.

Oxidising Material has a lot to answer for for starting that thread.

There was an extremely long thread on the Miscellaneous page of guitar.com's forums called "Darth vs Corrie" which was a debate about religion. Many of the links used by Darth and another debater called MrKrinkles (who is registered here I believe) came from infidels.org. I read a bunch of the stuff in the library, wandered over here to the forums and have been reading (and posting intermittently) ever since.

I was pissed off at theists one day and started googling rude things. This resulted in a link to a thread here. Right away I registered, but they were in the middle of an upgrade so it was a number of days before I could start posting. I believe my official registration date is Dec. 25 2002.

I can't remember what my first post was either. I am really curious now though.

I love going to www.progressiveears.com

It's a progressive music site--chatroom, articles, reviews, news, etc.

About a year ago they started an Off Topic page, and the topics got pretty Off.

Two in particular.

One was about the sanctity of Capitalism. I was definitely contra on that one.

The other was about theology. I got myself in hot water by my relentless rejection of Christianity.

Finally things got so acrimonious (I didn't get acrimonious; he who loses his temper loses the argument; but others got acrimonious) that the Moderators shut down the threads and the Off Topic page.

Just before the apocalypse, one of the few fellow infidels on the site referred me to here.

Progears is still a great site for music.

I heard this place mention at, of all places, the Neverwinter Nights BB while the game was still being developed.

A guy named "Gromnir" (Who the hell are you here??) told one of the developers to come here to read something about logic, IIRC.

I came to read it too and loved it here.

Default Lost and Found

...a few years back i managed to get onto alt.atheist but it was pretty convoluted to me, then later on i found About.Atheism.com and that was a wild live interaction ... flammming and booooting ...the owner can't remember his name ... had these total knee jerk mod's who spent more time booting atheists and letting the xians troll to their hearts content... flammmes went higher, we complained, we pleaded with the owner to get rid of certain Mods as they were so disruptive ... i'll think of her name eventually... Finally we ALL had enough and about 50 of us bolted from ABOUT to another atheist board... then that board kept caving in and then a guy named Maveric (british kid) got a site cranked up and we hung there Atheist Anonymous for a while but it had no entry for troll and the like ...essentially NO Resistance/no Friction and slowly the chatter atrophied...
Then there was one other who had a Atheist Radio show also an Infidel and i tried to get into his site but waaaaaaay to much trouble...
I had this Secular Web icon sittin in my Fav's and i thought ... lets knock on this door ...cause it's not fun livin in a world of fundies ... And here i is.... having a really good time and appreciate all the brilliant folks in here...
