My favorite band rocks!

Your favorite band sucks!

End of story.

my question to Huginn, is it possible to articulate here what you like so much about Radiohead?
Probably not and there would be little point. If you don't enjoy their music then you don't enjoy their music and nothing can be achieved by discussing it. Everyone appreciates music differently and it is a waste of time trying to get people to change their tastes.

Music is made to be enjoyed in whatever way the listener prefers. Instead of going about telling people you think their favourite music 'sucks', why not just consentrate on the stuff you do like and leave other people to enjoy what they prefer?

it's just that I don't like the way new Radiohead sounds
If you'd started with that we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Ditto. Besides, this wasn't a music criticism thread...it was just a guy talking about a band he really like. To show up and shit on everything is in pretty poor taste, and violates the rules against being a jerk, IMO.

So you know the difference in an augmented and a diminished--so what? That doesn't make your opinion about good music any more valid than anyone else's. And don't start with the "he made fun of me first" shit. What did you expect people to do? When you act like an ass don't be surprised if people treat you like one.

Now to your question. What are you looking for? A mathematical view? that it is refreshing to see a band do something other than C-G power riffs?

Radiohead have interesting and innovative musical arragnements that flow bueatifully (withouht always relying on some boring verse bridge chorus verse structure). Thom Yorke sings amazingly and with often brilliant lyrics. OK Computer is one of the most poetic attacks on the corporate world i've ever read.

Quite frankly I can't think of anything NOT to like about an album like OK Computer or the Bends (some of their other work I have problems with). The guitars, lyrics, bass, drums, arragnments and vocals areall excellent.

to me at least.
Interesting. We both seem to have similar criteria in rock music, but found it met in different music. Oh well, at least we agree on politics.

I could explain to that the reason I really like "Creep", the only song by Radiohead I've ever heard and liked, is because although it only consists of four chords, those four chords fit together rather cleverly, in that the first chord is the tonic chord; the second is the mediant, which is typically a minor chord, but in this case raised to a dominant seventh chord, thus providing a chromatic passing tone between the tonic chord's fifth and the root note of the next chord, which is the submediant. But wait! They throw in a bit of deception, because that dominant seventh resolves to the subdominant chord, not to the submediant as expected! Finally, the fourth chord is again the submediant, but this time it's lowered to minor form, thus providing another chromatic passing tone between the subdominant's III note and the tonic's V note. So it resolves quite nicely when return to the tonic. Plus the guitarist gets some pretty impressive tones out of his axe.

So... where were we? Oh yeah, the latest Radiohead sucks.

A fascinating evaluation, and I respect your opinion. Not everyone can like the same thing. Since I know nothing about the technical details of music, I am incapable of judging a song in the fashion you do. I can only listen and enjoy on an unintelligible manner.

---------------------------------

PS - Here I am a couple of days after buying OK Computer, and I am listening through the whole album for the 5th time...it gets better and better, and grows stronger with every listen. It's devastating. Each and every song is so beautiful, so emotional, so inexplicable in its visceral impact, that I can honestly say I haven't heard any music like it. Definitely the best album I have ever (and certainly will ever have) owned. Pure magic.

Thanks for recommending it, all who did.
