Can't resist putting in my two cents:
In India the religious lawgivers were always against skeptics with frequent demands for their banishment from society because their questioning upset the foundations of civil and political society which can create anarchy. Some of them were all for banning schools of logic because the first premise of logic is doubt and once doubt is allowed pretty soon it leads to doubting the scriptures and gods.
