The bible teaches us to test the spirits to see if they have come from the Lord. Your prophet Mohammed does not pass the test.
When the prophets in our bible received revelations from the Lord, they were certain of its source-God. Over 100 times in the Old Testament alone, prophets of God begin their utterances with “Thus saith the Lord”. Mohammed was uncertain about the origin of his revelations. He thought he was possessed by a demonic spirit. It was his wife Khadija who convinced him that Allah was speaking through him and encouraged him to be obedient to the spirit. This does not sound like a prophet. By what authority did Khadija have to make this proclaimation? She was not a prophetess, nor does her words count as much as a man’s, according to one hadith “The Prophet said Isn’t the witness of a woman equal to half that of a man. The women said Yes. He said this is because of the deficiency of a woman’s mind.” Our bible teaches us to test the spirits to see if they come from the Lord because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1) 1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Mohammed delivered revelations that completely contradict the bible so we can only concede that it was not the Spirit of God speaking through him but rather an unclean spirit as Mohammed himself thought they were. This seems especially true considering how the revelations were made. Indeed when Mohammed received these so called revelations, he was accompanied by trance like states in which he was completely oblivious to his surroundings. He gave every evidence of being under the influence of a power outside of himself. He would awaken from these states very shaken and weak. Some have refered to it as an ecstatic seizure. He would fall onto the ground, foam at the mouth and have perspiration pour down his face. (Basically an epileptic fit. All the epileptics I know are very confused afterwards because of the electrical discharge in the brain.) His religious experience is also close to shamanism which is known for fostering periods of mental disruption in an attempt to contact the spirit world as well as spirit possession. Your prophet and his words do not impress me. They have failed the test of the spirit. (This is getting silly posting the same responses on two different threads. We should probably confine this discussion to one thread.) |

Gen 17:9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. Judaism, the religion may not have been established yet until after Jacob had his kids. But Abraham was the beginning of the covenant with God - the start of the Jewish line - so he is the first Jew. |

Nahhh.... The NT authors probably have the reputed Jesus of the gospels quoting from the LXX because they were Grecophones in distant locations like Anatolia and Egypt. They, when writing the gospels, had the main character speak the same language they did...a rather common convention. An alternative theory is that the stories are invented entirely or have been repeatedly embellished by a variety of communities over a considerable period of time. godfry n. glad |
