It is not the same thing. Illegally holding a citizen a prisoner without due process is a crime. They have these things called trials with lawyers and judges and in many cases a group of 12 people called a jury...

Thank you, Jat, for forcing me to be precise in the definition of my proposal. For the sake of argument, can we also assume that my "suicide pill" option would be implemented legally in the USA (since IIRC Canada has no death penalty)? And would only apply to those prisoners convicted properly, with a jury and all that due process stuff?

Feel free to point out any other logistical or legal shortcomings you find in my proposal. But keep in mind that I proposed it hypothetically, and am more interested in discussing "prisoner's option" theory behind it.
