Well, DC if you ever eat at Good Eats in the DFW area, they offer the same thing. They have a sign in the front of the stores that offer 20% off with a church bulletin on Sundays.

It seems kinda silly to get upset about this. The comparison with Ollie's BBQ is far from being on point, too, as the TB isn't refusing to serve any hungry atheists.
I do have enough sense of humor, though, that I enjoyed some of the suggestions, especially braces_for_impact's. |

Emphasis added. If this Taco Bell is in Alabama, please take a picture of it, and contact me at my office. This is a no brainer plaintiff's win and I smell attorney fees. I just love it when they break the law. If they didn't I'd be out of business. SLD |

So you practice law, SLD? And your opinion is that this is a blatant violation and worthy of bringing an action?
This particular Taco Bell is in Cookeville, TN. I took a picture of the sign, but being a poor student with a lot of other things to do, I don't really have the money or time to pursue any legal action. However, I do plan on Finding out the Store number and contacting the Taco Bell corporate headquarters. Perhaps they'll put a stop to it. I also plan on alerting the local (Nashville) ACLU affiliate. |

No no no no no. Attorney fees are to be paid by Taco Bell. That is the beauty of civil rights laws. You don't have to spend a dime. But if you warn taco bell they might (heck they probably will) do the right thing and rescind the policy and then us attorneys will have to force our kids into slavery as we won't be able to feed them. Do you want that on your conscience? Find a good freethinking attorney in Nashville. (I'd bet in a small town you won't find an attorney willing to risk his practice on such a case). In answer to your first question, most undoubtedly you would win. Most likely with the filing of a lawsuit it would settle quickly. Alternatively the judge would probably grant you a judgment after the close of discovery. Although I wouldn't request a jury trial just in case the Judge decides to throw it to trial. SLD |

Why not approach Taco Bell first? Why not ask the manager before getting into a huff.
I frankly think Taco Bell can give discounts for this if they'd like. It's up ot them. They aren't even requiring you to be a member of a religion. Go to a church and get a damned bulletin or print one off from an internet webpage. DC |

You maybe able to make a case for discrimination based on religion. But it is rather pointless

@ WastedPotential
Do yourself a favor man and skip the fast food all together. I hope they give fundys a 99% discount. That way only atheist would be slim. Then it would become fashionable to be atheist. People would say " Look at that body, *sigh* i wish i was an atheist." You could write a book How to loss 20 pounds and free up your sundays You would make millions. When people ask you what your secret is you could say "Well, i couldnt have done it without god" Wow what a ramble that was. On secound thought, maybe you shouldnt listen to me. P.s. Nope, this is not illegal. It does not discriminate. Here is why. Anyone in this country can get a church bulletin if they want one. You don't even have to attend a service to get one. Just walk into a foyer, pick one up, and go to Taco Bell.
Many organizations offer discounts to different categories of people - this is no different. Kevin |
