Nah, not too stupid. You're just not used to thinking the way most of us here are. I was just remarking that your prayers to your god would have the same effect as it would if I had sent a letter to Santa on your behalf. See they're both mythical concepts with no direct influence on the world around us (which doesn't include people doing things on "His" behalf). So both are just efforts in well-meaning futility.

Better?

Gee, I hope none of you ever wished someone 'good luck'.

Talk about a rough crowd...

Wishing someone good luck doesn't imply they are wrong, you are right, and they should change. I find "I'll pray for you" quite rude.

I thank you for the benevolent gesture. In kind, I'm going to write a letter to Santa Claus asking him to be extra generous to you this year.
Where's the evidence that it's a benevolent gesture, Kurt? It's probably her fault I dislocated my shoulder!

You don't even know me - so how can you pray for me?

Is it just a general, all-inclusive prayer for all heathens?

You may as well be blowing on a dandelion and hoping the seeds fall where you want them to fall. . . . sheesh

Sorry about your shoulder. If that's the case, I'll send another letter asking Santa to dislocate something of hers this Christmas.

And as for praying being on the same level as wishing someone good luck, that's preposterous. When she said that she was praying for us, (a bunch of atheists) I assumed she meant praying for us to come to our senses and accept god. If I'm wrong, then shoot me. I don't however, think that my assumption was groundless.

Obviously you've been praying for the wrong people. None of us have died tragic and miserable deaths since you were gone.
