When I saw this movie, I did not know it was in reference to a book. Obviously, I did not see it as a satire. I would think if I didn't know it came from a book, neither did many people that saw this movie. So how could this be a successful satire, if the main audience knows not of the book. I think it is not a satire of the book but of all sci-fi films in general, no different from Mars Attacks, Total Recall, Robocop, Buckeroo Bonzai etc. The movie is just a formula this director puts together to try to entertain the general public. Its turned out well in Robocop, so why not this film too? From what I've heard about this book, it doesn't sound to make a very interesting movie.
I think that this movie has been over-analyzed and is intended to be in an illogical universe of sci-fi. |
