You gotta love it! Fortunately, I don't know how many people actually depend on the library alone for computer access. I live in a small, rural, Bible Belt area and I suppose many people here do rely on the public library. When the ruling actually takes effect, I will go over to the library and see what come up when I search for IIDB. In the larger metro areas, libraries are complaining about the ruling already. How many people actually go to the public library and view porn? I wouldn't think many. But, I'm kinda naive sometimes.
True, mostly the language isn't that bad. I am not advocating censorship. Nobody forces anyone to read the threads here. But I do hate the idea that the Xtian message will get into public libraries scot free.

I only use the internet during my breaks at work, and the corporation I work for has unfortunately chosen to filter our access. Due to this, I sometimes can't read certain threads/pages of threads. Moderated web viewing sucks, but so does resorting to profanity and name calling in debates.
Interestingly enough, there are various Anarchist websites that I can't access (such as infoshop.org) due to their being blacklisted for "promoting crime." And to think, this company fancies itself "progressive." |
