The change in the Pledge was at the instigation of the Knights of Columbus, who are currently getting their name out with their "women deserve better than abortion" campaign, probably familiar to Amercians who ride subway trains or buses. (Interesting, that they think they know what women deserve, since they're an all-male organization). The KoC are the Catholic version of the Masons.
