One thing that I find telling: if a guy becomes president whose father was leader of the country and furthermore this motive is widely repeated in senate and other elections - does that not make you think on how democratic your country can really be? I don;t know of anything like that occuring in europe since the monarchy days - correct me if i'm wrong. |

I don't think the US has ever been a democracy.
Now, of course, it is straying even farther from that ideal. While many countries have been moving toward the goal of one person one vote, the US has been moving toward an ideal of Rule by Money, or Oligarchy. Voting in the US is now merely an empty formality. You are presented with two handpicked candidates by the Owning Class. There is little difference between them. Whoever is elected will do what is promised: which is, to use the government as an enforcement arm for large corporations. Bush is more naked and vigorous about this. ![]() |
