I am not surprised by the fake debates. I suspected somthing similar going on when I watched a Christian "Donahue" style talk show several years ago. Some of his guests couldn't be believed. I remember one woman on the show, who wore a wig and sunglasses, make outrageous claims about her gay father.
Another trend I have seen on campuses is the misleading debate announcement. I remember one ad in the student newspaper that looked like a debate, but turned out to be a lecture and sermon by a creationist. Bait and switch it's called. |

If it worked, they'd use it.If there was a better method, they'd use that instead.
I've noticed, that for some religious types, especially evangelical Christian types, the truth isn't nearly as important,as getting people to think the way they want them to. I'm not sure, but this behaviour seems to be the same as what they use when dealing with people of another religion. Of course in that case, they're simply trying to convince a person who believes in supernatural events, already, that their beliefs are not correct, and that the Christian's beliefs are the correct set of supernatural beliefs. |
