My current car: Black 1991 Eagle Talon AWD TSi w/ sunroof. I'd like a newer Talon, but I am but an extremely poor college student.

If I had an awful lot of money to spend on a car (ie, I had the chance to use Bill Gates-esque funding, but only for buying and modifying a car), I can think of some cars I'd like to own, and mod like you wouldn't believe.

My current pipe-dream mobile starts with a Mazda RX-8, which I would pay Mazda to put AWD in. I consider AWD to be a must. Then, I'd gut the bastard. I'd replace large portions of the frame with titanium, supplemented by high-grade carbon fiber. All the body panels would be made out of carbon fiber or kevlar, and would be coated in silverstone, and would be designed to resemble the '95 RX-7 more than the RX-8, as I don't much care for the body design of the RX-8. It would have twin turbos, one 5-incher and one no less than 14 inches. High end intake, manifold, filter, and exhaust, etc. Controlled by a custom designed ECU with accounting for turbos, and capable of optimizing fuel/air mix and other functions more than normal ECUs (kinda like an ECU with performance chips, only designed that way). All that good stuff. And those are just the major details Oh, would that be fun to drive. And oh, would I rack up the speeding tickets. Presuming they caught me (I tend to have good luck in that regard. Only speeding ticket I got was in my mom's Mazda 626 (with v-4, tops out at 115 mph, "no power" engine), and I wasn't speeding very much, which is unusual for me.)

All-alloy, quad-cam V6's with 4 valves per cylinder. Holden's finally using current engine technology! Now for the suspension, steering and handling...
I didn't know any of that- I don't keep up with all the latest. They'll be able to build a V10?! Do they plan on building one, or are they just allowing for future options?

I thought that the Buick motor, as good as it is for a sedate family car, was a bit dated too, with it's pushrods. It'll be good to see up-to-date engines in the home-grown line-up. I take it they are going to/have done away with the supercharged six option in the Statesman, then?

How strange these curious preoccupations w/ steel cans so vulnerable to rust! How atavistic the drive to go zooming to somewhere/*any*where else as fast as possible/faster than anyone else!. What can it all mean? (Big fat shiny dick-substitutes for guys whose own don't satisfy their longing to be BIG-ENOUGH/fast-enough/"powerful"-enough?) How maximally-ununderstandable.....

:notworthy Another DSMer!!

(You do know your car's legacy, I hope...)

If you consider that important, obviously you're not Mustang material.

Hey Putney, how's your Mustang handle? *snicker* Enjoying all that '80s technology?

I own a DSM; how could I not know the legacy of Diamond Star Motors?
I highly recommend the AWD TSi (now, if I could just get a rotary for my car. mmmm...rotary engines.). Even though mine is currently in need of repairs
I really don't understand why people like mustangs. Yeah, you can fit a big engine in 'em. Big deal. If I just wanted a big engine, I'd drive a truck. However, I don't feel a need to try to supplement the size of my penis with the size of my engine. I enjoy performance cars for the thrill of the drive, and handling is essential for that, as well as speed. Oh, and because, when I'm not driving for the thrill of it, I want to get wherever the hell I'm going ASAP, and not waste time in transit

You got me there, Sparky. Even though it handles much better than 98% of the cars currently being made, I do think it seriously sucks that I have to spend a lot more money on it to seriously compete on the autocross circuit. [/sarchasm mode off]

98%? C'mon, there aren't that many 18-wheelers on the road

Seriously, though, I've driven a couple mustangs, and I was not impressed at all with their handling (I won't say I was reminded of a brick; I'll reserve that for the mercury sable rental car I once drove, and an equally unweildy chevy caprice. ugh). It definitely was not signifigantly better than any other car I've driven, and was, in fact, worse than several. Maybe it was just something about the 1995 and 1997 model year mustangs, though?

All I know is the plant is capable of building a V10, although you would think that the Statesman/Caprice/HSV Grange might use one in the future.

As for the 3.8L Buick V6, I don't think you could find a more asthmatic and unbalanced block of iron if you scoured the globe. It did its thing, and it's [way past] time for it to be laid to rest. The only thing I'm really hanging out for is a turbo V6 SS-X Monaro (AWD). Finally something to take on the GT-R Skylines, EVO Lancers and WRX/STi's.

Now that sounds like it could be a bit of fun...
