As a Christian and ex-youthpastor, I have seen that the "new guys" don't seem to be the men themselves, but rather their ministries that are popular: Bill Hybles, Willow Creek Community Church - 15-17,000 weekly attenders, annual seminars on "How to Grow Your Church" that bring thousands of pastors from around the nation and even world (www.willowcreek.org) Rick Warren, Saddleback Community Church - in Orange, CA - 10-15,000 weekly attenders, plus annual seminars, also the church where Lee Stroble is employed (could'nt find web cite). |

I agree that new people will arise to take the place of the old ones. It just seems that the new ones do not have the charisma or the "fire in the belly" that some of the old ones have/had. With a few exceptions, I do not see the 30-60 year olds who will step forth to play the same kind of powerful leadership role. I think it is part of a broader generational and cultural shift.

It's happening in the Senate too. Phil Gramm, Jessie Helms, Strom Thurmond.... they're all retiring. That whole bunch of right wing christian bigots that came into power during the Reagan Rush are gettin pretty old... and there's really nobody to replace them. (Fortunately)
